28.1<\/span>
I pray You all in reverence with outstretched hands for his help \u2013<\/span>
the Bounteous Will\u2019s in first place, Mindful One, with Right \u2013<\/span>
through action<\/span>
by which Thou wouldst satisfy Good Thought\u2019s wisdom and the<\/span>
cow\u2019s soul:<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
2<\/span>
I who will approach You, Mindful Lord, with good thought,<\/span>
to give me of both existences, the material one and that of<\/span>
thought,<\/span>
those blessings in line with Right by which one could keep one\u2019s<\/span>
supporters in well-being;<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
3<\/span>
I who will hymn You, Right and Good Thought, as never before<\/span>
and the Mindful Lord, You whose unimpaired dominion also<\/span>
is increased by Piety: come to my calls to give help.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
4<\/span>
I who have taken my soul in mind for praise-song together with<\/span>
Good Thought,<\/span>
and knowing the Mindful Lord\u2019s repayments for actions,<\/span>
so long as I have the ability and strength, will look out in search<\/span>
of Right.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
5<\/span>
O Right, shall I see Thee, as I acquire good thought<\/span>
and, as a path<\/span>1<\/sub><\/span> for the most mighty Lord, the Mindful One,<\/span>
compliance?<\/span>
Through this prescript may we convince the predators<\/span>2<\/sub> most<\/span>
fully with our tongue.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
6<\/span>
Come with Good Thought, give with Right Thy enduring gift<\/span>
in upright utterances, Mindful One, strong support for Zara-<\/span>
thushtra<\/span>
and for us (all), Lord, with which we may overcome the foe\u2019s<\/span>
acts of enmity.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
7<\/span>
Give, O Right, that reward, the blessings of good thought;<\/span>
give Thou, Piety, enablement to Vishtaaspa and myself;<\/span>
give Thou, Mindful One, showing Thy authority, the prescript<\/span>
in which we might hear Your caring.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
8<\/span>
For the best gift, Best One who art of one mind with best Right,<\/span>
Lord, I pray Thee earnestly on behalf of the upstanding Frashaush-<\/span>
tra and myself<\/span>
and those on whom Thou mayest bestow it for ever out of Good<\/span>
Thought.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
1<\/span> Or: place, seat.<\/span>
2<\/span> The word properly denotes animal marauders such as wolves. Here (as in<\/span> 34<\/span>.<\/span> 5<\/span> and<\/span> 9<\/span>)<\/span>
it stands for the wrongful men who harass the co<\/span><\/span>w.<\/h6>\n
9<\/span>
With these prayers may we not anger You, Lord, nor Right<\/span>
and Best Thought, we who are busy offering Your praises:<\/span>
Ye are the promptest ones; Your powers and domain are of<\/span>
strengths.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
10<\/span>
Those then whom Thou knowest to be upright before Right and<\/span>
Good Thought<\/span>
and worthy, Mindful Lord, fulfil their desire with attainment;<\/span>
I know that well-purposed hymns of devotion to You are not in<\/span>
vain.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
11<\/span>
Thou who with their aid dost protect Thy Right and Good<\/span>
Thought for ever,<\/span>
teach me, Mindful Lord, to voice in line with Thy will<\/span>
through Thy mouth (those teachings) by which the pristine ex-<\/span>
istence may come about.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
29.1<\/span>
To You the cow\u2019s soul complains: \u2018For whom did Ye shape me?<\/span>
Who made me?<\/span>
Fury and force, cruelty, violence, and aggression hold me bound.<\/span>
I have no pastor but You; so show Yourselves in good pasturing.\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
2<\/span>
Then the Maker of the Cow asks Right: \u2018How was Thy ruling for<\/span>
the cow,<\/span>
when Ye powers put her there? Cattle-tending lies with the<\/span>
pastor;<\/span>
(but) whom did Ye want to be her lord, that might repulse fury<\/span>
by the wrongful?\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
3<\/span>
To him Right, no breacher of unity, no enemy of the cow, will<\/span>
answer:<\/span>
\u2018Of those things there is no knowing. He by whom the upright<\/span>
invigorate the weak<\/span>
is the mightiest of beings; to his calls I will respond,<\/span> my ear reaches<\/span>
no further<\/span>:<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
4<\/span>
\u2018the Mindful One, the most heedful of initiatives, both those<\/span>
taken in the past<\/span>
by Daevas and mortals, and those that may be taken hereafter.<\/span>
He is the lord that judges; it will be as He will.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
5<\/span>
But we two are here with outstretched hands propitiating the<\/span>
Lord,<\/span>
my soul and the milch cow\u2019s, as we put the Mindful One to our<\/span>
questions:<\/span>
\u2018Is there no prospect for the righteous-living one, none for the<\/span>
stock-raiser, among the wrongful?\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
6<\/span>
Then the Lord speaks, the Mindful One, knowing the designs in<\/span>
his wisdom:<\/span>
\u2018Indeed no patron has (yet) been found, nor a ruling in line with<\/span>
Right;<\/span>
the Shaper has created thee for the stock-raiser and the herds-<\/span>
man.\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
7<\/span>
Milk and butter, this is the prescript that the Lord, of one mind<\/span>
with Right, made<\/span>
for the cow, He the Mindful One; He is bounteous to the needy<\/span>
through his teaching.<\/span>
\u2013 Whom hast Thou who by good thought could establish those<\/span>
things for mortals?<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
8<\/span>
\u2018This man here I have found, the only one who listens to Our<\/span>
teachings:<\/span>
Zarathushtra Spit \u0304<\/span>ama. He desires, mindful, on Our behalf and<\/span>
Right\u2019s,<\/span>
to broadcast Our praises, as I harness his well-constructed utter-<\/span>
ance.\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
9<\/span>
Yet the cow\u2019s soul laments, \u2018That I am to put up with an ineffec-<\/span>
tive carer,<\/span>
the voice of a powerless man, whom I wish enabled with author-<\/span>
ity!<\/span>
When will there ever be one who will give him physical assis-<\/span>
tance?<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
10<\/span>
\u2018Grant Ye them, Lord, strength with right, and that authority<\/span>
with Good Thought, by which one may establish fair dwelling<\/span>
and peace:<\/span>
I for one realize Thee, Mindful One, to be the first procurer of<\/span>
that.\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
11<\/span>
Where are Right and Good Thought and Dominion? It is me,<\/span>
with Right,<\/span>
that Ye in Your providence must acknowledge, Mindful One,<\/span>
for the great rite.<\/span>
Lord, (come) down to us now, in return for our liberality, Your<\/span>
followers\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
30.1<\/span>
Now I will speak, O proselytes, of what ye may bring to the<\/span>
attention even of one who knows,<\/span>
praises for the Lord and Good Thought\u2019s acts of worship<\/span>
well considered, and for Right; the gladness beheld by the day-<\/span>
light.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
2<\/span>
Hear with your ears the best message, behold with lucid mind<\/span>
the two choices in the decision each man makes for his own<\/span>
person<\/span>
before the great Supplication, as ye look ahead to the declaration<\/span>
to Him.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
3<\/span>
They are the two Wills, the twins who in the beginning made<\/span>
themselves heard through dreaming,<\/span>
those two kinds of thought, of speech, of deed, the better and<\/span>
the evil;<\/span>
and between them well-doers discriminate rightly, but ill-doers<\/span>
do not.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
4<\/span>
Once those two Wills join battle, a man adopts<\/span>
life or non-life, the way of existence that will be his at the last:<\/span>
that of the wrongful the worst kind, but for the righteous one,<\/span>
best thought.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
5<\/span>
Of those two Wills, the Wrongful one chooses to do the worst<\/span>
things,<\/span>
but the most Bounteous Will (chooses) Right, he who clothes<\/span>
himself in adamant;<\/span>
as do those also who committedly please the Lord with genuine<\/span>
actions, the Mindful One.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
6<\/span>
Between those two the very Daevas fail to discriminate rightly,<\/span>
because delusion<\/span>
comes over them as they deliberate, when they choose worst<\/span>
thought;<\/span>
they scurry together to the violence with which mortals blight<\/span>
the world.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
7<\/span>
But suppose one comes with dominion for Him, with good<\/span>
thought and right,<\/span>
then vitality informs the body, piety the soul:<\/span>
their ringleader Thou wilt have as if in irons:<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
8<\/span>
and when the requital comes for their misdeeds,<\/span>
for Thee, Mindful One, together with Good Thought, will be<\/span>
found dominion<\/span>
to proclaim to those, Lord, who deliver Wrong into the hands<\/span>
of Right.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
9<\/span>
May we be the ones who will make this world splendid,<\/span>
Mindful One and Ye Lords, bringers of change, and Right,<\/span>
as our minds come together where insight is fluctuating.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
10<\/span>
For then destruction will come down upon Wrong\u2019s prosperity,<\/span>
and the swiftest (steeds) will be yoked from the fair dwelling of<\/span>
Good Thought,<\/span>
of the Mindful One, and of Right, and they will be the winners<\/span>
in good repute.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
11<\/span>
When ye grasp those rules that the Mindful One lays down,<\/span>
O mortals,<\/span>
through success and failure, and the lasting harm that is for the<\/span>
wrongful<\/span>
as furtherance is for the righteous, then thereafter desire will be<\/span>
fulfilled.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
31.1<\/span>
Minding these rules of Yours, we proclaim words unheeded<\/span>
by those who with the rules of Wrong are disrupting Right\u2019s<\/span>
flock,<\/span>
but the best for those who will trust in the Mindful One.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
2<\/span>
If hereby the better way is not in plain view to the soul,<\/span>
then I appeal to You all according to the ruling known to the<\/span>
Lord, the Mindful One,<\/span>
(the ruling) on those two lots, so that we may live in accord with<\/span>
Right.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
3<\/span>
The atonement that Thou didst establish with Thy will and with<\/span>
fire and with Right assign to the two parties,<\/span>
the rule that is for the prudent \u2013 tell us that, Mindful One, for<\/span>
our knowledge<\/span>
with the tongue of Thy mouth, and with it may I convince<\/span>
everyone alive.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
4<\/span>
When the time comes to invoke Right and the Mindful One and<\/span>
the Lords<\/span>
with Reward and Piety, I shall petition with best thought<\/span>
for a strong authority for myself, by whose increase we might<\/span>
vanquish Wrong.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
5<\/span>
Tell me, so I may distinguish it, that better lot Ye appointed for<\/span>
me with Right,<\/span>
so I may know and take to heart with Good Thought, whose<\/span>
prophet (I am),<\/span>
those things, Mindful Lord, that will not be, or will be.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
6<\/span>
\u2013 \u2018It will go best for him who knows and speaks my truth,<\/span>
the prescript of health, right, and continuing life.<\/span>
What he increases for Him through good thought, that is domin-<\/span>
ion for the Mindful One.\u2019<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
7<\/span>
He who first conceived these amenities permeating the world of<\/span>
light,<\/span>
He by his sapience is the creator of Right, with which He upholds<\/span>
Best Thought.<\/span>
Through that will, Mindful One, Thou dost increase, which even<\/span>
unto now, Lord, is the same.<\/span>4<\/sub><\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
8<\/span>
I think of Thee first, Mindful One, as being young in my thought,<\/span>
the father of Good Thought, when I catch Thee in my eye,<\/span>
the true creator of Right,<\/span>5<\/sub><\/span> lord over the world\u2019s doings.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
4<\/span> Or \u2018who . . . art the same.\u2019<\/span>
5<\/span> Or, with an emended reading, \u2018the companion of Right (and) creator\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
9<\/span>
Thine was piety, Thine too was the cow-fashioner sapience<\/span>
of will, Mindful Lord, when Thou gavest her a path<\/span>
to come either on the herdsman\u2019s side or (on his) who is not a<\/span>
herdsman.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n

10<\/span>
But she of these two chose the herdsman, the stock-raiser<\/span>
as her lord, the righteous one, the cultivator of good thought:<\/span>
the non-herdsman, Mindful One, drive her as he might, did not<\/span>
get her goodwill.<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
11<\/span>
Since first, Mindful One, Thou didst fashion our living bodies<\/span>
and moral selves<\/span>
with Thy thought, and our intellects, since Thou gavest bodily<\/span>
vitality<\/span>
and actions and pronouncements, (it has been the case that)<\/span>
where the free agent makes his choices,<\/span>
<\/span><\/h6>\n
12<\/span>
there it may be one of false words who speaks forth, or one of<\/span>
straight words,<\/span>
one with knowledge or one without it, through that man\u2019s heart<\/span>
and thought:<\/span>
point for point Piety debates with the will where there is hesita-<\/span>
tion.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
