He motioned for me to sit down, and I did.

“There is something I want to tell you,” Dou Xing said, “but first, you must do as I instruct. Are you willing?”

“Yes.”

“Then you are not ready.”

I looked at him, and though there were no mirrors around, I imagined my face was completely puzzled.

“Tell me about your experience?” he asked.

“What just happened? Did I do something wrong?”

He flashed a smile. “You were ready to take my instructions without question—”

“But I trust you, why wouldn’t I?”

“Trust is fine, but always question. Never give away what is yours, any more than you would take away what is mine.”

I could still feel puzzlement on my face.

“You are sovereign. Your world will try its best to tell you otherwise, but you are this—sovereign. You are also integrated with all others within your realm. So you are both sovereign and integrated. In this state, you are able to operate as a singular being that is connected to all other beings through the network of personal responsibility, which is to say, the virtues of the heart—it is the only covenant.

“Do you understand?”

I nodded. “But questioning… even you?”

“It is not a sign of disrespect. It is a sign that you understand sovereignty. It is not willful disobedience to an authority; it is the practice of your heart aligned to what is called in some worlds, the Sovereign Integral. This is the consciousness that we all aspire to, whether we call it by this name or not.”

“You are aware, I take it, that I’m living in a mental hospital right now…”

“Yes.”

“And I am anything but a Sovereign Integral. Right now, I wear clothes that aren’t mine, I’m locked inside a room, I eat when I’m told, and I have no real freedoms, so how do I live as a Sovereign Integral?”

“You align with it.”

“And how do I do that?”

“Everything is about alignment in a world that is ordered hierarchically. Because there are levels or layers of the world, alignment is critical. I will show you… with your permission.” He nodded to me, and I nodded back.

In an instant we were flying by some invisible means above a place that was absolutely pristine in its beauty. There was a large waterfall, plunging into a dense, tropical jungle, and we flew into a pool of water that was only a few yards downstream from where the waterfall exploded into the river.

The sound of the rushing water was exhilarating. I could feel the power of the water pushing us downstream as we bobbed like apples floating down the river. In a few moments, the roar of the water subsided and the current diminished sufficiently, so we could swim to the river’s edge where we hoisted ourselves up and lay on our backs on the warm sand of the embankment.

“Do you see it?” Dou Xing was pointing upwards to some tree branches that hung high above us like green canopies, blocking the sky. I looked and saw only leaves, nothing peculiar or unusual.

“You mean the leaves?” I asked tentatively.

“Look closer.”

I squinted, but again saw nothing unusual. “I see only leaves.”

“Try not to look at the leaves, but rather, look at the movement of the leaves and what gathers at their lowest point.”

The spray from the waterfall kept the leaves in a perpetual state of glistening green and drops of water were falling from them, and I watched as these drops of water fell down on us. It was hypnotic. I kept watching, occasionally I’d feel a water drop hit my arm or face.

“Keep watching,” Dou Xing said. “Patience is rewarded.”

Then it happened, I was watching one drop form high above me, knowing somehow it would land on me. I watched it curling its energy into enough mass that it would suddenly burst from its leafy post and let gravity have its way with it. It began its descent, and I watched it fall into my eye with great relish. As it hit my eye, I immediately felt my body, such as it was in this world, become like water. It was a very strange experience, I began to dissolve, and I flowed into the river and felt myself merging into the water that flowed downstream.

I rushed by stones and boulders and smooth branches that poked out of the river like bones of trees that had long passed to a new world. I heard the sound of rushing water; I felt the movement, unburdened of any desire or will. It was utterly freeing to flow like this. To feel movement and yet no will. To be separate yet part of a whole. It was ecstasy. It was alignment.

The instant the thought hit me I was back sitting in front of Dou Xing’s modest fire pit with the faint outline of distant mountains in the background.

“I… I understand,” I muttered distractedly.

“Alignment is flow. But what do you flow with?” Dou Xing asked.

“Love?”

“Is it a question?”

“Love.”

“And where does this love come from?”

That was a good question. I thought about it for a few moments as I was readying my answer, feeling like a test was being played out. “It comes from here.” I put my hand over my chest.

“Remember the waterfall?”

“Yes.”

“It’s like the heart, but before the waterfall, there was a source, what was it?”

“The whole river was the source,” I said.

“So we align to love’s unity instead of the small drop—the one ego. We align to the part of us that is the whole river.”

“The Sovereign Integral…” I half-whispered.

“Yes.”

“But if it’s just a concept, if I’ve never experienced this state before, how do I align to something that’s a mere thought or concept?”

Dou Xing looked heavenward for a moment. “This will come as a surprise to you, but you, in your human instrument, are a mere thought or concept, too. You have only accepted it as your reality. It is the only difference. So when you align to a larger picture of your true self—the whole river—you assign a new sense of priority to your interaction with the universe. This can be done on a subconscious level; it doesn’t require you to will it into manifestation with prayers and visualization. Just hold the desire to be aligned… to be the whole river. The rest, as they say, will follow.”

As his words finished I opened my eyes and saw the drab outlines of my room hazy in its darkness. I was once again alone. ”

Quantum Pause

Introduction 
 

Quantum Pause is a primary tool of the Sovereign Integral process.

The wonderful thing about breath is that it is always with you from the very first to the very last experience of this world. It is portable, everyone has it and it is what anchors you into the now.

Below is a step-by-step process that is recommended to use when you practice quantum pause, however, it is also suggested that you remain open to adapting this process to your own style, preference and capabilities.

STEP 1: Declarative Purpose

 
The first step is called Declarative Purpose. This simply means that before you begin, declare your intent. There are two general states when one performs quantum pause:
1. I am doing this for the whole of humanity
2. I am doing this for a specific subset of humanity (myself, friends, family)
The first state is obvious, but the second varies by a considerable degree. For example, you could apply quantum pause for a situation that requires forgiveness or compassion within your immediate family, or perhaps yourself. Whatever the purpose is, it is recommended to declare it before you take your first breath. This is your inception point for the entire session that follows.

STEP 2: Breath Baseline (2-4 measures)

 
From a breath perspective, there are four equal parts to quantum pause. In-breath (nose) > pause > out-breath (mouth) > pause. This 4-part process is called a measure. Each measure is divided into two segments:
1. In-breath > pause segment, which is the I AM
2. Out-breath > pause segment, which is the WE ARE
After you have declared your purpose, then perform 2-4 measures of breath, without visualizing or thinking or feeling. This step is simply to quiet your internal state, center your awareness and bring you fully into the now.

STEP 3: Conceptual Attention (3-5 measures)

After you have your baseline established, imagine that during the in-breath segment that a vertical line or column extends from the center of earth through your pineal gland in your brain and upwards to infinity. The beginning of the in-breath starts in the core of earth, and as you inhale, the vertical line extends through you and into infinity above. When you reach the pause after your in-breath, imagine that the field of I AM consciousness during the pause is coalescing or uniting within the vertical column.
During the out-breath segment, visualize a horizontal bar or line that originates in your heart area and extends outwards from your arms’ deltoid muscles, encircling earth. When you reach the pause after your out-breath, imagine that the field of WE ARE coalesces within the horizontal bar. The WE ARE visualization connects you to humanity and life on earth.
It is not critical that you visualize in high resolution (i.e., color and fine detail). These are conceptual attentions without any judgment as to your performance or how much detail you can imbue to each segment. You are directing your attention on high concepts, and this is enough.
These concepts of I AM and WE ARE, when compared to your programming on television, internet, and daily life environments, support your service to truth. There is no judgment to how you perform this. It is simply that the conceptual attention, in itself, loosens the bonds from the programming of the Hologram of Deception.
 

STEP 4: Body Lens of the Heart Virtues (3-5 measures)

 
During the in-breath segment of each measure, you can bring in one or more of the heart virtues. For example, as you breathe in, you imagine forgiveness, as a lens, forming around your entire body. You can look out through this lens that encompasses you through your entire being. You are saturated in forgiveness. In the pause, you simply allow it to intensify and encompass you like a transparent energy field.
When you transition to the out-breath segment, you release this forgiveness or whatever heart virtue you are focused on. The release, as it pertains to the declarative purpose, is either to humanity at large, or a subset, which could include just you, your family members, work colleagues, friends, neighbors, pets, animals, plants, etc.
It is important to direct the heart virtues upon yourself as you move through this process. You require self-forgiveness, self-compassion, self-understanding and self-appreciation. Sometimes it is best to do this at the end of the day, and focus on others and humanity during the day, but this is an individual process and you decide what works for you.

STEP 5: Completion

 
When you feel you are done, you can send appreciation to the Creator in that conceptual framework of infinity that you held earlier. Then, take the entire session and imagine it is compressed into something the size of a pea or small stone, and it is wisely placed within your pineal gland to be absorbed and transmitted.
Then dissolve the entire session by opening your eyes and declaring “It is done.” You do not hold any bias or outcome favoritism. You are neutral, as you step out of the session.
 
Additional Suggestions
 
Condensed Versions of Quantum Pause—once you have practiced this for a period of two or three weeks, consider how it can be condensed and applied in real-time circumstances that allow you to transfer the experience of a five-stage session into a 30-second session, then a 10-second session and finally into a 3-second session. The idea is to condense the experience (not the breathing aspect) of quantum pause into a smaller time segment that can be used in real-time experiences so you can be on a phone call, in a meeting, driving your car, talking with your spouse, and call up the experience without the formality and time requirement of the 5-step structure.
Breath Control—there is no judgment that the longer your breath parts are performed in each of the segments, the better the result. There is no correlation. However, as you get into the later steps of the quantum pause process, your attention is less centered on your breath. You allow it to become self-directed, so your attention can move to a more imaginative and feeling oriented state.
Purpose—the purpose of quantum pause is not to leave the body or have a “spiritual” experience or conjure any “positive” experience upon completion. It is purposely not of that realm. It is not designed to create an experience for your mind or provide visualizations of another world. If you see, sense or feel anything that is unrelated to your purpose, gently, but firmly, remove it.
Posture—unlike meditation, quantum pause is not related to specific postures. You can practice it lying down when you wake up or go to bed. You can be standing up or sitting down. There is no posture requirement. Quantum pause is not meditation for the human instrument. It is a behavioral exercise to reveal the Sovereign Integral state of consciousness.
Synchronize—if you practice quantum pause, and you begin your session at the top of the hour, it will synchronize your experience with others and expand the energy. It doesn’t matter which of the 24 hours you start with, but if you can, begin at the top of the hour.

The application of Quantum Pause may seem an unlikely way to de-activate the Suppression Framework of the Sovereign Integral and more effectively handle the transition stage we are in, but I would encourage you to try it for three weeks and see what results you achieve. Only through your own experience can you judge the merit of Quantum Pause. If, after three weeks of daily practice, you experience a new clarity and connection to your origin point, then you will be motivated to continue, and in this decision you have established your new First Point upon which unconditional oneness, equality and truthfulness can stand.

There are many nuances to the Quantum Pause technique, and I would encourage you to discover them on your own, in your own way. This is but a basic technique that I have shared with you, but there are subtleties to this technique that are powerful enhancements and these will occur to you while you’re in the process of using the technique, so remain open while you practice it.

Some quick suggestions to get you started. The quantum pause immediately after the out-breath can provide a subtle sense of panic for some people. If this occurs, shorten your count so you have less time elapse for each segment. For example, if you were using a four count cycle, shorten it to three. This feeling of panic will go away as you practice the technique. These “hitches” or quantum pauses have a purpose that you will come to understand.

I would also suggest that you focus your attention on your breath – its sound, its texture, how it feels inside your lungs, how your lips form in the out-breath, how it flows through your system, etc. This focus aligns you with First Point or the Origin Point of your Sovereign Integral because it is the breath that is the Portal of the infinite and eternal being that you truly are, and it is through this portal that it is manifesting in physicality.

When using Quantum Pause, there is a natural tendency to look for the experience of Light or to see new dimensions, speak with Beings or even God, or have a “wow” experience that really confirms that you’re on the right path. The practice of Quantum Pause will bring you new experiences and awareness, but leave your expectations behind. Again, human beings love visual stimuli. They love to see higher dimensions as if seeing is believing. But all that is in the quantum spacetime does not conform to the Human Mind System. Quantum is origin. It is meta-physical, which precedes visual, acoustic, and sensory data. It precedes feelings and thoughts. It exists before these stimuli and is indeed hidden behind them to some extent.

The “wow” experience may manifest in a form that your HMS cannot interpret or translate into images, words, feelings, and thoughts. Therefore, do your best to eliminate expectations of an experiential nature and simply follow your breath. The moment that the Sovereign Integral reaches into your HMS and announces its presence, you will never forget, nor will you mistake it for anything other than what it is. And when that time comes, you might be brushing your teeth, writing an email, or resting on the couch. It happens in its own time.
